Fraser Mustard Early Learning Academy

Fraser Mustard Early Learning Academy is Canada’s largest all-Kindergarten school, serving nearly 700 young minds. A 27 classroom addition to the adjacent Thorncliffe Park Elementary School, it also houses daycare and community spaces with age-specific outdoor play areas. The building responds to a constricted site, taking advantage of contrasting edge conditions, existing pedestrian linkages, solar orientation, and creating unconventional yet highly functional interior spaces. The incorporation of artwork on the building facade in the form of text developed from a brick masonry module engages students, parents, newcomers and visitors by way of concealed text and counting games.
